“For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities — all things were created through him and for him.” Colossians 1:16-20

Our anniversary fast gives us an opportunity to recalibrate our hearts and minds towards God and defend against the natural drift away from Him. This year’s theme is “To Him” - for all things were created by him, for him, and to him.

In his letter to the Colossians, Paul is teaching the saints a Christ-like perspective that doesn’t just impact how they think or even what they believe, but how their belief ought to affect how they live. It all starts with Jesus. Knowing that Jesus wasn’t just a prophet or a good teacher, but the one through whom all things were created (John 1:1-3).

John Piper once said, “All that has come into being exists for Christ — that is, it exists to display the greatness of Christ. Nothing — and I mean nothing — in the universe exists for its own sake, including you.”

Let us join together to seek a fresh revelation of the Lord that enables us to live “to him” in all that we do.

WHY PRAY?
Real relationship requires real intimacy. God is close. He is near. He is constant. Prayer produces intimacy. It positions our hearts to learn from our Father, to lean on Him, to be strengthened by His presence. Prayer is the language of our faith, bringing vision to what is not yet seen.

1 Corinthians 13:12
12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then
face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.

WAYS TO FAST
Fasting is the act of choosing to abstain for a period of time. The ultimate aim of fasting is to get in touch with our hunger for God. Hunger is the state of wanting or needing something you do not have. When we fast, we awaken our body and soul to its deep yearning for life with the Father.

When we fast, we are practicing spiritual discipline by sacrificing one of our most essential daily routines. Some examples of fasting include:

LIQUID FAST: Consuming only liquids for a specific period of time
PARTIAL FAST: Abstaining from specific kinds of food (i.e. the Daniel Fast)
TV/SOCIAL MEDIA: Choosing to abstain from certain technologies
