We have another blog from one of our recent Peru Missions team members, Marcus Fields. Check out his story about his experience in Peru:
Enciendeté! ("Ignite" in English). That word sticks with me and I find myself constantly saying it throughout the day, and most of the time it's for no reason at all. It just pops in my head randomly.
Peru has had an impact on my life in a way that I'll never forget. The faces of the people, the ministry opportunities, the sounds and landscape of the cities and towns we visited and ministered to- it all has created a beautiful memory on my mind that I'll always treasure. There are so many stories to tell from my experience in Peru, and it's very difficult to pick one.
I believe God assembled the 6 of us to go to Lima, and we fit perfectly as a unit into the culture there. We overcame obstacles before we left Virginia and even when we arrived in Lima. Some of us spoke Spanish- some did not. We all gave 100% of what we had and never gave up even in tough days. We stuck together and lifted one another up when the load seemed to be too much. We were certainly there to give to the people and be used as God desired, but somehow the people of this great city and country gave to us more than we expected or anticipated. I stated to each person I met over and over that they were "mi familia", and I truly mean it.
One takeaway from this trip is that these beautiful people truly have a heart and a passion for Jesus. Those that are saved truly know the value of living in community and doing life with one another. They have a heart for the city and really desire to be used by God to win Lima. Those that are not saved, when hearing the gospel, acknowledged their emptiness and were quick to repent and ask to be saved- no hesitation! No brochures requested so they can think about it....no requests for a website to hear sermons and get more info....they heard Jesus and went after Him!
I thank God for allowing me this opportunity to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. Lima, Peru will always be special to me. I cannot wait to go back to see the growth of my extended family.
Enciendeté!!
